Verdict

Namely's UI is good and the compliance features are real. But Rippling and BambooHR are stronger at similar price points, and Namely's support track record since the ownership change is a concern.

§1What Namely is

Rippling logoRippling
BambooHR logoBambooHR
ADP logoADP
Paychex logoPaychex
Gusto logoGusto

Namely is an HR platform for mid-market companies in the 50-1,000 employee range. It covers HRIS (employee records, org charts), payroll, benefits administration, time and attendance, and performance management in one system.

The UI is modern and better than ADP or Paychex. Namely was one of the first mid-market HR platforms to prioritize user experience. That was a real differentiator when they launched.

§2Pricing

Namely now publishes an entry price. As of 2026, the Namely Now plan (payroll and core HR only) starts at $9/employee/month, confirmed directly on Namely's official pricing page. That is a change from earlier reviews of this vendor, when Namely quoted every deal privately with no published number at all.

The three plans above Namely Now still require a custom quote: Namely Plus adds onboarding, recruiting, performance, compliance, benefits administration, and time management; Namely Plus People adds managed payroll and managed benefits services on top of that; Namely Complete adds large-group medical, dental, and vision, plus workers' comp, risk and safety management, and shared liability compliance. Most mid-market buyers who need performance reviews or benefits admin will land on Plus or above, not the $9 entry tier, so the $12-22/employee/month range customers have reported historically is still the more realistic planning number once you add modules. Confirm the current figure with a quote, since Namely's tier lineup changed since our last check.

Implementation fees add to the initial cost for the higher tiers. Namely says Namely Now implementations can run as fast as 3 weeks; Plus and Complete rollouts with more modules take longer. Contract terms are flexible, month-to-month up to 3 years, so there is no forced multi-year floor.

Get quotes from Rippling and BambooHR before signing with Namely. They are in the same price range and the comparison is worth doing.

§3Support and ownership concerns

Namely merged with Vensure Employer Solutions and PrismHR into a combined HR/PEO organization on September 6, 2022 [Axios, 2022-09-06]. Customer support quality has been inconsistent since then. Multiple review sources report longer response times and less knowledgeable support staff compared to the earlier period.

This matters for HR software more than most software categories. If payroll has an issue, you need a fast, knowledgeable response. If your dedicated rep changes quarterly, institutional knowledge about your setup disappears.

Namely is not a bad product. It is a product that has had execution challenges at the support and implementation level that are worth factoring into a purchase decision.

§4Alternatives worth comparing

Rippling covers HRIS, payroll, benefits, and IT management in one system. Better software architecture and faster development than Namely. Comparable pricing.

BambooHR is strong on HRIS, ATS, and onboarding. Payroll is an add-on. Better support reputation than Namely at this size range.

Paylocity is a strong mid-market choice with better payroll depth than Namely and a more stable support organization.

§5Frequently asked questions

Does Namely publish its pricing now? Partly. As of 2026, Namely's pricing page lists the entry Namely Now plan (payroll plus core HR) at $9/employee/month, confirmed directly on namely.com. The three plans above it, Namely Plus, Namely Plus People, and Namely Complete, still require a custom quote based on modules, headcount, and benefits needs, and most mid-market buyers end up on one of those three.

Is Namely's customer support actually worse since the 2022 Vensure/PrismHR merger? Multiple review sources describe longer response times and less consistent account rep continuity after the merger, though experiences vary by account size and region. If support responsiveness is a dealbreaker, ask Namely directly for references from companies your size before signing.

How does Namely compare to Rippling on price? The published $9/employee/month Namely Now tier undercuts Rippling's entry pricing, but it only covers payroll and core HR. Once a buyer needs performance management or benefits administration, both vendors land in a similar range, and Rippling's modular per-app pricing lets you add only what you need, while Namely bundles more modules into fewer, larger tiers. Get quotes from both before deciding.

What size company is Namely actually built for? Namely targets the 50-1,000 employee mid-market range. Below 50 employees, BambooHR or Gusto are usually a better fit; above 1,000, companies typically move to Workday or UKG.

Are Namely implementation fees negotiable? Reported implementation costs for the higher tiers range from $2,000 to $10,000 depending on company complexity and data migration needs. Like most enterprise HR software deals, these fees are frequently negotiable, especially if you are comparing quotes from Rippling or Paylocity at the same time. Namely says a Namely Now implementation can run as fast as 3 weeks; more complex tiers take longer.

What do G2 and Capterra reviewers say about Namely? As of 2026, Namely holds 3.9 out of 5 on G2 (332 reviews) and 4.2 out of 5 on Capterra (441 reviews). That trails Rippling (4.8 on G2) and BambooHR (4.4 on G2), which tracks with the support and execution concerns covered above rather than any single dealbreaking feature.

What to do next

Most payroll tools offer a free trial or free setup month. We recommend testing 2–3 options with a real payroll run before committing to an annual contract.
